About the kits
Does a kit include an enclosure?
No. Our kits are tankless: they include everything that goes in and on the enclosure, but not the enclosure itself. This keeps shipping affordable and lets you use an enclosure you already own or prefer.
Which enclosure do I need?
Leopard Gecko Kit: a 40-gallon breeder-style terrarium with a 36" × 18" footprint.
Bearded Dragon Kit: a 4' × 2' × 2' (120-gallon) enclosure with a mesh top.
What heat does each kit use?
Bearded Dragon Kit: halogen basking lamps on a proportional dimming thermostat. Halogen produces bright light and infrared-A heat, the closest household match to basking in the sun.
Leopard Gecko Kit: a 50W deep-heat infrared basking lamp in a dome with a built-in dimming thermostat. It warms the basking spot from above, the way reptiles naturally heat up.
Both setups hold a steady temperature instead of flicking on and off.
Do leopard geckos really need UVB?
Leopard geckos can survive without it, but modern husbandry guidance recommends low-level UVB because it supports natural vitamin D3 production and calcium use. The kit uses a lower-strength 5.0 T5 HO UVB in a reflector hood that rests on your mesh top, and includes three hides, so your gecko can choose how much exposure it gets.
What is the UV meter for?
UVB bulbs lose output over time even while they still look bright. The meter lets you check the UV level at the basking spot when you set up, and track it over the months so you know when the bulb needs replacing. We also check every UVB tube before it ships and write the reading on your packing card.
What flooring comes with each kit?
Bearded Dragon Kit: a non-adhesive, non-absorbent liner with no loose particles to swallow. Shake it out, wipe it down or rinse it, then let it dry.
Leopard Gecko Kit: flooring isn't included, so you can use the substrate you prefer.
Setup
How do I set up the thermostat and lights?

Is setup difficult?
No special tools are needed. Most keepers finish in under an hour. The UVB fixture rests on the mesh top (the dragon kit's can also mount inside the enclosure), and the dome lamp sits over the basking spot. In the dragon kit, the lights plug into the thermostat and timer. In the gecko kit, the heat lamp's dome has its thermostat built in.
